“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.” - Carl Gustav Jung.
If there's anything I've learned in this strange year of change and upheaval, is that many of the things I used to worry about...never mattered-AT. ALL .
🔴We're all struggling;
🔴We're all sad;
🔴And we're all uncertain about what lies ahead.
Which got me thinking;
- "what are the lessons here?"
- "what would I have said to my younger self (if I had the chance), and more importantly...
- "what do I want to pass on?"
Below are some of my "truths"- hard-won; but oh so relevant!!
1. If you had 1 day left to live, how would you spend your last 24 hours?
Let me share a little secret with you; I spent 5-maybe 10 years before I had the courage to just "go for it".
I pushed through my fear by asking myself the very same questions.
The answers led me to do the thing I most desired -which was to help women become economically emancipated.
This may not be your "why"; however, this question helps you hone in on your goals.
What are your values?
What drives you?
What do you want your life to be about?
When you’re certain about what matters, you'll be in a better position to arrive at authentic decisions consistent with who you are.
2. If something's too disagreeable - don’t do it.
Let's face it, a large portion of life (and business) consists of doing really "boring" stuff - I'm not talking about those things - I'm talking about THESE things:
Being on EVERY social media platform;
Following the latest "it"!
If you find yourself constantly compromising your principles, tolerating any form of disrespect, or having to "make yourself small" for the sake of peace - you may want to take a hard look at where you're headed; and make some adjustments.
Pro tip: A great strategy?-smile and say "Let me think about that".
“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It's about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.”
― Brene Brown
3. Make your life whatever you want it to be
Two reasons why people fear authenticity:
1. they care too much about what other people think. and
Both are awful reasons.
Truth is, you don't need anyone's permission OR approval to do what works for you - wanting to do it, is reason enough.
Once it isn't hurting anyone, you do YOU!!
So cut your hair, go grey (oh, that was me!!), learn to skydive, become an author, paint your nails in crazy patterns (me again!!).
It’s your life – embrace it!!!
“We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.”
― May Sarton
3. Keep an open mind
Our daily routines offer us a sense of safety and comfort.
However, if you find yourself slowly becoming a slave to them and becoming rigid and inflexible in the process, you may need to check on that.
REMEMBER, it's never too late to become who you wanted to be all along - someone who embraces different perspectives and keeps an open mind.
4. Trust your gut
Have you ever had that gut feeling about something or someone?
You know, the little voice in your head that guides you, or stops you (or at least tries to) right before you make a mistake?
That's your intuition!!
Everyone has it - although we often ignore it. Learn to trust your instincts - it will let you know when something is off – including you.
So that's just a few of the things I've learned and have been reminded of in 2021.
I've got a few more-especially when it comes to business.
book a 1;1 session and let me share them with you, along with some strategies guaranteed to help you break free of the confines of overthinking and double-thinking.!!
