Updated: Jul 25

“Resilience is our ability to survive and flourish through our traumas, stressors, responsibility shifts and challenges offered by life.”- Sherrie Campbell.

Female Founder Rhonda Glynn
if you can stay strong, and stay focused, it'll be one of the greatest things you’ve ever done

When I first embarked on my founder journey, I sought advice from a trusted friend who was already a seasoned professional in the field.

Rhonda,” he said, there’s going to be feast and famine - days when you’re on top of your game, and other days when you are going to struggle. But if you can stay strong, and stay focused, it'll be one of the greatest things you’ve ever done.”

The Entrepreneurial Odyssey: Navigating Success and Challenges

Building a self-made business is a journey filled with a myriad of experiences. It encompasses both triumphant moments of unqualified success and daunting challenges that test one's resilience.

These ups and downs are inherent in the entrepreneurial path, shaping the narrative of the business's growth.

Amidst the inevitable challenges that arise, the key lies in equipping oneself with the right tools and strategies to navigate through turbulent times. These tools act as a shield, helping entrepreneurs weather the storms that are bound to come their way.

It is essential to anticipate these challenges, acknowledging that they are an integral part of the entrepreneurial landscape.

By embracing the unpredictability of the business world and arming oneself with resilience, determination, and adaptability, entrepreneurs can emerge from difficult situations relatively unscathed. The ability to pivot, innovate, and learn from setbacks is what sets successful self-made businesses apart.

What we’re talking about here, is RESILIENCE, which the Merriam-Webster dictionary describes as:

re·sil·ience | \ ri-ˈzil-yən(t)s \ (noun)

1: the capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation caused especially by compressive stress

2: an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change

The resilient among us are easy to spot – they’re the ones who refuse to give up even in the face of devastating loss or challenges.

Entrepreneurs choose a life of hardship. They choose a life that will hopefully be marked by joy, achievement, laughter, and satisfaction, but will also inevitably be marked by confusion, chaos, change, fear, and disappointment. This is true of everyone’s lives, of course, but the entrepreneur chooses a life in which he or she is very likely to have higher highs and lower lows, in which the peaks of joy and troughs of dread are likely to be more vivid than if he or she made a safer choice.” -Eric Greitens

Unveiling the Mystery: Recognizing the Unseen

But here's the thing …How will we recognize it?

  1. what are the qualities of resiliency?

  2. What makes you become resilient?

  3. Can someone be born with that resilient gene,

  4. Or , can it be developed?

Here below, are 3 major qualities of resiliency/resilient people:

1. Self-respect is key:

True self-reliance is achieved by valuing oneself independently of others. It is essential to develop a strong self-connection, acting as our own source of comfort during challenging times, no matter the situation, and especially in moments of stress.

2. Resilient people are never perceived as needy, desperate or even overly reactive:

Their "centeredness" not only enhances their performance of tasks but also fosters strong emotional connections. Naturally resilient individuals exhibit heightened confidence and exceptional emotional intelligence.

They exude a sense of calmness and perceive rejection as a mere stepping stone towards new opportunities, or at the very least, a chance to pivot.

Confronted with challenges or difficult situations, they rise above without faltering - their determination stems from self-reliance and not relying on external resources.

Those who are self-reliant in nature know to achieve happiness and success in life and in business they must also choose their relationships carefully.

3. They are discerning:

Those who are self-reliant in nature confidently understand that to achieve happiness and success in life and business, they must meticulously select their relationships. They recognize that any form of negativity breeds unnecessary drama, and therefore, they consciously avoid associating with individuals who exhibit arrogance, egotism, or greed.

This astute judgment extends to their commitment to cultivating or pursuing mutually beneficial relationships-both on a personal and professional level. They realize that without this foundation, no meaningful progress can be made by either party.
